Let nationally acclaimed dog trainer Francis Metcalf guide and council you and your animal through every stage of your dogs life and with every problem that might come up.  Whether you are just getting started with your puppy or shelter dog, or wish to become a top competitor, Francis can help.

Francis educates his clients on the why’s and how’s of dog training, and facilitates a successful relationship between person and animal. He works with the full range of dog temperaments-- from fearful to aggressive (and points in between)-- modulating his technique according to need.

Ringsport has been my school.  On the trial field I learned the big lessons about how to help your everyday dog owner.  These hard won lessons took study, contemplation, and back breaking work.

For over a decade, Francis has competed with his own dogs and has won national championships in French Ringsport.  He was the first person to title an American Bulldog in Mondio Ringsport, and the first American to be accepted into the Mondio Ring Judge’s Apprenticeship Program.

Francis has worked with dogs and their owners throughout North America and in Europe.

He understands dogs and their relationships to humans from global, national, and local perspectives.

He has worked with Hollywood stars, Fortune 500 executives,  children of all ages, and autistic and developmentally delayed adults.  He has trained dogs for the deaf and hearing impaired at the Hearing Dog Department of the San Francisco SPCA. He is an integral part in the creation and implementation of the UCSF Children’s Hospital Animal-Assisted Therapy Program.

After 15 years as a professional trainer Francis remains enthusiastic and creative force in the world of dog training.  He lives and works in Oakland, CA.,  with his wife and family, and trains all over the world.

Growing up in Rockport Maine I was very lucky to have Harry Goodridge, Andre’s trainer as my next door neighbor.  I am not in the movie, but I was one of the kids who would collect money from the crowd during Andre’s weekly shows.  No wonder I grew up thinking I could train any animal to do any behavior.  We all stand on the shoulders of giants!

Andre the Seal was my biggest influence as a developing trainer.
