Hypothesis:  Dogs and their owners grow to become very similar.

Assumption:  If the the kings of modern Punk Rock had a dog, it would be a Punk Dog.


Results: Green Days dog, after psychological evaluation and many tests, is a BREAKDANCING FOOL!

Those of you who know me know my motto is “yes”  So when the University of California Children’s hospital asked me to turn a shelter dog into an ace therapy dog I said “yes!!!!!”  Get out the tissue paper this is a real tear jerker.

My philosophy on therapy dogs:

Besides the loving presence of a mother, properly trained therapy dogs are natures best remedy for hospitalized people.


The handler and handling of the therapy dog is just as important as the dog.  I have seen way too many boring savior types on the other end of the leash.  Handlers you must be entertainers and friends!


Three most important things: 1) safety 2) being able to see through the eyes of person you are visiting 3) Being able to use your animal to tell an age appropriate story that draws the patient to you and takes them on a journey away from their pain or sadness. 

 

My observations  on the training of Canis Pugilist Orientalis:

Pugs are tiny Bullbreeds, they need to be bonded with not dominated. 
Pugs should be trained with allot of positive motivation, and when you introduce negative consequence it must be well planned.  Any idiot can train a German Shepherd or Golden Retriever.  A Pug requires a trainer with foresight and patience.


Pugs see weird, not so good in front and too good on the sides, which is the opposite of many breeds.



 
People see Pugs weird.  The Brachycephalic head elicits parental instincts.   A master Pug trainer isn’t tricked by the face, instead you must see: a kid with a black eye, skinned knee, and a sling shot, or maybe a Samurai.  The Pug trainer must go out to find trouble to get into with the Pug, this is true Pug bonding. 

 


Every dog has it’s innate talents.  As trainers, our job is to draw those talents out.  Watch!

Chomsky The Dog:  Scientifically trained by Elves and Fairies and tutored by wizards.  Known intergalactically for her performances which combine therapeutic elements with a sense of the now.
