What does a Hearing Dog do?

Hearing Dogs guide their owners to the source particular sounds in their home or at work.

I already have a dog, can you train it to be a Hearing Dog?

Yes.  However this is done on a case to case basis.

What sounds are hearing dogs trained to alert too?

The trained Hearing Dog is taught to alert to specific sound events such as:  telephone, TTD, cell phone, fire alarm, alarm clock, security alarm, kitchen timer, door bell, and door knock.  However many custom sounds can be taught as well.

Can a Hearing Dog replace my lights and other alert devices?

No.  Hearing Dogs provide many things that lights cannot like love and companionship.  Bottom line: the dog is not a machine, it’s ability to perform depends on your ability to train and practice daily.  Learning to train your Hearing Dog takes patience, effort, and coordination.  You must learn to live the Hearing Dog life style; then overtime your dog can become as reliable as other signal devices.

What does Friends of the Family Dog Training LLC have to offer?

We offer personalized instruction on Hearing dog training.  We will help you: select, train, install, and deploy a Hearing Dog. 

Do you supply interpreter services?

We do not provide interpreter services, that is a up to the client to arrange.  We highly recommend BACA for all of your interpreter needs.  If you are a lip reader or can communicate through writing then an interpreter will not be needed.  If you are ASL you will need to arrange for an interpreter.

What does it cost?

Our price for Hearing Dog training is the same price for all of our training.  The basic unit is $100/hour, discounts are available by purchasing one of our packages.  If you are a Veteran please ask about our Veterans discount package.

We offer a customized curriculum, custom sound training, and custom dog selection.  We train an elite brand of Hearing Dogs that are  held to the highest standards.  We charge for our services to ensure the quality of our work.
